Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine the dates of your trip. Traveling cross country can take quite a while, so you want to be sure you give yourself enough time.

  2. Step 2

Budget your trip accordingly. Calculate the cost of fuel, the rental cost of the RV, food and sightseeing.

  3. Step 3

Choose an RV to buy or rent. If you already have an RV, make sure it is properly maintained and can handle the long trip. You also want to ensure there's enough room for everyone to travel and sleep comfortably.

  4. Step 4

Evaluate the RV you buy or rent for the necessary amenities such as a bathroom, kitchen, sitting room and plenty of sleeping and storage space. Your trip needs to be comfortable and enjoyable, so make a checklist of what you're looking for ahead of time.

  5. Step 5

Map out your route, so you know exactly which highways to take. Be sure to find areas where you can park your RV and stay overnight. Make a note of different museums, monuments and natural wonders you'll want to stop and see along the way.

  6. Step 6

Create a list of all of the essentials you'll need for your trip including towels, clothing, food, camera and film.

  7. Step 7

Get in your RV and begin experiencing the cross country trip of a lifetime.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many RVs have their own kitchen, so bring your own food to cook. This will save lots of money and your family will be eating healthier than just fast food.
  • An RV with a GPS system is especially helpful so you won't get lost when you're traveling throughout the states.
