Stripper poles are gaining popularity in the world of fitness. Pole dancing offers a great aerobic workout; performing routines on the pole can make your entire body stronger. You can buy one to use at home.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine where you want to put the pole. If you want to set up a removable pole in your home, measure your ceiling height to find an appropriate space. If you want to set up a portable pole, know that the standard height of a ceiling is eight feet.

  2. Step 2

Think about what you're going to use the pole for. You can buy stationary poles or poles that spin. The spinning poles are primarily used for performing showy moves, rather than exercising. However, you can lock the pole to make it stationary.

  3. Step 3

Compare materials. Stainless poles are slick and are great for spinning, but they're hard to climb. Brass poles allow for a better grip, but they are more expensive.

  4. Step 4

Note the size of your body. Poles are made in different diameters; standard stripper poles are 2 inches around, but they are offered in smaller sizes for people with small hands.

  5. Step 5

Determine how you'll set up the pole. There are several ways to hook the pole to the ceiling; each requires you to anchor the pole to a ceiling joist. If you have tile or wood floors, buy a non-skid mat to use underneath the base of the pole to avoid slippage. Buy any necessary accessories and hardware at the same time you buy your pole.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't want to install permanent hardware in your ceiling, get a friction or tension mount pole. Poles that require mounting hardware usually come with something to camouflage it, like a smoke detector cover.
