There are plenty of scams out there offering game testing as a way to make easy money, but the reality is that 1) it's actually a job; 2) it's hard to get game testing jobs; and 3) you need to have real expertise to make money testing video games.

However, if you're passionate about gaming, are really good at it, and want to break into a career in the video game industry, becoming a beta tester is a career path to go down. But getting those jobs isn't easy. They usually go to people that the developers already know and use on multiple projects.

Build a network, be it virtual or real, with other gaming enthusiasts as well as those who work in the video game industry. Use web forums, social networking sites, sites dedicated to your favorite games, or even professional gaming industry websites to get your foot in the door. The key is to put yourself in the right place at the right time to nab a testing gig.

Brush up on your tech-savvy skills. You may have an amazing kill record, but if you don't know anything about game development or programming, your testing skills might not be much help to a developer looking to create a new patch for a glitchy new game. Learn as much as you can to help your cause.

Go with what you know. If there are five or six video games that you love the most, connect to other people who love those games. Get involved in the gaming community, and talk to the moderators and developers about the game if you can. Send feedback, ask questions, start a dialogue. They might decide to put your talent and enthusiasm to good use.
