How to Deal With Co-Workers Who Refuse to Change

Whether you're in human resources management or just a co-worker, you may come across workers who are difficult to work with and who refuse to change. These workers may be annoying, but good at the work they do so you need to find a way to get along. Use these tips to deal with co-workers who refuse to change and keep peace in the work place.

1. Try to understand your staff and your co-workers. Find out what interests these workers and try to relate to them on their level. Determine their needs and try to present your needs in a way they will understand.

2. Determine your co-workers' personality types. You may be rubbing them the wrong way and you don't even realize it. Find out if they are introverted or extroverted. Discover their learning styles and try to relate to their way of thinking.

3. Use communication management techniques. Talk to your co-workers about the behavior you don't like. Explain that you don't like the way they are talking or acting. Use constructive criticism so you don't cause hostility between you.

4. Confront your co-worker if their behaviour is inappropriate or harmful. Let them know what they have caused by their behaviour and give them consequences for their actions.

5. Ignore someone who continually annoys you or tries to vie for attention in a negative way. Keep communication and interaction to a necessary minimum if you can't get along with someone at all.

6. Stay positive and don't let their negativity bring you down. Stop the negative talker as soon as they get going in a negative direction. Answer their questions but don't ask any of your own.

7. Let go of the little things. You don't want to hang on to issues because your annoyance will turn into resentment and anger.
