How to Buy Fireplace Matches

Contributor
By eHow Contributing Writer

Fireplace matches are designed to let you light a fireplace from a distance, which is safer than using shorter matchbook matches. Fireplace matches are made of long wooden sticks, so they're stronger than the cardboard-based matchbook variety.

From Quick Guide: Buying Fireplaces
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how long you want the fireplace matches to be. You can find fireplaces matches that are anywhere from 9 to 12 inches long.

  2. Step 2

Choose your fireplace matches based on the container they come in. Select from printed cardboard containers or embossed, watertight tins.

  3. Step 3

Look at the packaging to find the strike zone where you'll light the matches. Make sure it's in a place that won't get damp, like the bottom of the container.

  4. Step 4

Select fireplace matches based on how many come in a package. Purchase larger containers if you'll use the matches often. Find smaller packages if you'll only use them rarely, or if you're purchasing them for purely decorative reasons.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep all matches out of reach of children, impaired adults and pets.
  • Store your fireplace matches in a cool, dark place for best results.
