1. Search for a bodyguard agency. You're more likely to find a professional who knows what they're doing and has a great service level and responsiveness. Agencies usually only have the best bodyguards because they value their reputations in the security field.

2. Check governmental agencies veteran organizations. These organizations can often help you find legitimate bodyguard agencies since many are run by veterans retired from these governmental agencies.

3. Call the company when you think you've found one that will meet your needs. Gauge their responsiveness based on how you were treated over the phone and if you were asked all the necessary questions as a potential client. If possible, try to actually visit the agency so you can get a feel of how it's run.

4. Find out what the agency's customers have to say about the bodyguard service they received. The agency should provide you with a list of references. Don't feel that you need to only contact the ones at the top of the list.

5. Ask about the training and selection procedures. Find out what makes the bodyguards suitable for the type of security you need. Make sure there's insurance coverage and ask to see the documentation proving the agency and the bodyguards have insurance.
