Step 1
Decide the type of mesh netting that will best meet your needs and purchase it. Mesh nets can be bought at any fishing supply store. The brands West Coast Nets, Betts Tackle and American Maple are some of the most common ones. Nets typically come in sizes of four to 12 feet, although few people are strong enough to lift a net bigger than 10 feet when it is filled with fish.

Step 2
Perfect the casting technique. This move will require quite a bit of practice to get just right. Begin by making a wrist loop and place it over your right wrist if your right-handed and over your left wrist if you're left-handed. Then make several more loops out of the hand line and hold them in your casting hand.

Step 3
Make sure the drawstrings are hanging straight, then grab with your casting hand one third down the net. Use your other hand to stretch out the lead line to make sure it's not twisted or tangled. Cast smoothly using a full counter-clockwise turning cast.

Step 4
Retrieve the line by pulling the hand line towards you. Lift the net into a bucket and release the clamp or hand line to free the fish.
