1
Prepare the seat board by cutting a 2 by 8 inch board to 9-feet long. Make the brace board by cutting a 2 by 4 9-feet long as well.
-
2
Work on the seesaw's uprights. Take two pieces of 2 by 8 inch wood and cut down to 35 inches each. Smooth their edges with a sander or sand paper.

3
Make the support for the seesaw. There are a couple of ways to do this. For a permanent seesaw, dig a couple of holes in the ground to place the uprights. Put at least 17 inches of the uprights into the hole and fill it with concrete. Another alternative is to place the central uprights into an old tire and fill that with cement. This makes the seesaw stable while it can be moved to different locations in your yard.

4
Cut notches out with a jigsaw. Make it a U in shape a little more than 2 inches deep at the top of the upright boards. These notches are where the pivoting bar will be placed. Cut similar notches in the brace board's middle.
-
5
Turn the brace board upside down so the notches are down and attach it to the top of the topside of the seat board with Liquid Nails construction adhesive. Use galvanized screws to secure it further.
-
6
Position the pivot bar. Use galvanized pipe for the pivot bar. Place it inside the notches you cut. Make the pipe longer so that about 2 inches will hang over the sides. You can place metal dowels in holes you drill in the uprights to help keep the pivot pipe from coming out.

7
Make handles out of marine rope. Drill small holes approximately 17 inches from the ends of the seat board. Push the ends of the rope through to form a loop for the handle and tie together to secure it.
