How to Repair a Cracked Faucet Spout

Cracked faucet spouts (whether inside or outside your home) may cause several problems. Cracked faucet spouts cause water to leak, wasting water and raising your water bill. Inside, a cracked faucet spout may cause water to splash onto your drywall, causing water damage.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Repair a cracked faucet spout by first removing the spout from the center of your faucet. This type of spout is normally on a kitchen sink. Loosen the nut that holds the spout onto your faucet. Slide the spout out over the nylon bushing. The nylon bushing is what keeps the water from leaking out from around the bottom of the spout connector.

  2. Step 2

Dry the faucet spout completely. You may use a hair dryer, if necessary, to make sure the spout's crack is completely dry before you proceed. Super Glue is one way to seal a fine-line crack when you repair a cracked faucet spout. This type of glue penetrates the crack and seals it. Apply a second coat of glue for extra strength.

  3. Step 3

Use an epoxy sealant to repair a cracked faucet spout. This is especially effective for an outside water faucet. Most outside faucets are made from brass. Clean the faucet spout well with a wire brush before you apply the epoxy.

  4. Step 4

Be aware that some types of faucet spouts (some kitchen faucets and bath faucets) are not removable. These faucets are normally manufactured totally out of plastic with chrome plating on top for the finish. In these cases, it's best to simply replace the whole faucet assembly instead of trying to repair the cracked water faucet spout.
