The Cadillac Escalade has a great feature that lets you know when your Escalade is due for an oil change. If the Escalade's computer has alerted you that you're due for a change, consider changing the oil yourself. The Cadillac Escalade takes 5W-30 or 10W-30 oil, but never use 20W-30 oil in your Escalade.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Car jack
  • Car jack stands or ramps
  • Wrenches
  • Oil drip pan
  • Oil filter
  • Cleaning cloths
  • Oil

Prepare Your Escalade for an Oil Change

  1. Step 1

Lift your Cadillac Escalade using a car jack and place jack stands underneath. If you don't have jack stands, you can use a set of wheel ramps. Make sure you brace the backs of the front tires, so the Escalade won't roll.

  2. Step 2

Pop the hood and remove the oil filler cap and dipstick. The oil filler is to the left of the engine, with the dipstick right behind it.

  3. Step 3

Gather your oil drip pan, new oil filter, cleaning cloths and wrenches. Slide under your Escalade.

  4. Change the Oil

  5. Step 1

Locate the oil drain plug and oil filter. The oil drain plug is close to the radiator area underneath the Escalade.

  6. Step 2

Remove the oil drain plug using a wrench. Pull it out quickly and let the oil drain into the drip pan for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

  7. Step 3

Locate the oil filter and remove it with an oil filter wrench. Dump the oil into the drip pan and check the gasket and threads for damage. Clean off any excess oil.

  8. Step 4

Replace the filter and oil drain plug. Slide out from under your Escalade.

  9. Step 5

Refill the oil fill hole with oil and replace the dipstick. Lower your car and start the engine. Let the engine run for a minute so oil pressure builds. Shut off the engine and take an oil level reading.

  10. Step 6

Add more oil if the oil level isn't at full and shut the hood.
