How to Treat Fire Ant Bites

Fire ants are not intimidating at all and are so small that they are difficult to see. This makes it easy for them to go unnoticed when they end up on your skin and begin to sting and inject you with their alkaloid venom. Their bites are painfully itchy and can leave scarring if not taken care of properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Put some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball, and dab the fire ant bites gently to disinfect them. Make sure not to break any blisters as you do so.

    • 2

Mix up a paste of baking soda or meat tenderizer with a little water.

    • 3

Apply the paste to the fire ant bites, making sure to apply a thick layer. This paste will lessen the pain and itching.

    • 4

Take an antihistamine to prevent dangerous allergic reactions if you think you may be allergic to the ant bites or if you have never been bitten before and are not sure to be on the safe side. If nothing else, it will reduce the itching and swelling.

    • 5

Clean the bites daily with the rubbing alcohol, and apply the anti-itch paste as often as necessary.

    • 6

Wait several weeks for the bites to disappear as you continue to take care of the area.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of the paste, you can apply an anti-itch lotion or spray to the bites to relieve the painful itching sensation that the bite will bring. You can purchase this product at any department store or make your own by mixing 10 parts water to one part bleach in a spray bottle.

  • Do not scratch the blisters or you may break them open. This could cause the area to become infected and could leave permanent scarring.
