How to Remove Spray Paint from Fabric

If you accidentally get spray paint on your clothes or other fabric, your chances of being able to remove it are much greater if you deal with the paint before it dries. If the paint has already dried, you or may or may not be able to remove it.

Instructions

1. Soak the fabric in cold water for a few minutes to keep the paint wet and rinse out any paint that is loose.

2. Treat the area with a stain-remover solution, and work the solution into the fabric. Then allow it to soak for a couple of hours. Wash the fabric in cold water using stain-fighting laundry detergent.

3. Check to see if the paint has been removed before putting the fabric into the dryer. If the stain is no longer visible, then go ahead and dry the fabric. If the stain can still be seen, allow the fabric to air dry, and then try alternative methods.

4. Saturate the dried paint stain with Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Allow the stain to soak in the alcohol for several minutes, and then rub it with a clean dry cloth of pick at the dried pain with your finger nail.

5. Continue applying alcohol and rubbing or picking at the paint until it is completely removed. You can also use hairspray instead of rubbing Isopropyl alcohol, as long as the alcohol is one of the ingredients listed on the can.

Tips & Warnings

• Try wetting the fabric with paint remover if the rubbing alcohol does not remove the stain. Be sure to wash the fabric after you are done.
