The happy baby yoga pose, also known as the dead bug pose, is a restoration pose and perfect for the end of your routine, as it helps to calm the mind and body while releasing tension in the hips. While the happy baby pose may seem simple for some, for others, it can be quite a challenge; however, a few yoga straps can help.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lie on your back with your neck long and legs extended. Flex your feet, drawing your toes in towards your torso and begin breathing slowly and deeply. As you exhale, bend your knees, bringing them up to your chest.

  2. Step 2

Loop a yoga strap over the balls of each foot, gripping the ends of each strap firmly in your hands. On another exhale, open your knees wide so that your inner knees are even with the sides of your body and lift the bottoms of your feet towards the sky. Keep the feet flexed and extend your arms straight, applying constant downward pressure on the straps.

  3. Step 3

Breathe slowly and deeply into the pose, relaxing into the stretch and remaining as still as possible. With each exhalation, try to inch your fingers up the straps towards your toes. With time and practice, you will be able to grip the outsides of your feet with your hands without the help of the straps.

  4. Step 4

Hold the happy baby pose for 30 to 60 seconds. When ready, release the straps and relax your feet, bringing your knees to center. Press your palms into the ground and gently lower your feet to the floor and extend your legs.
