How to Promote an Optometry Practice
An optometry practice can be somewhat difficult to promote, relative to other types of businesses. There are, however, lots of small things you can do as well as a couple of more expensive things you can do to promote your practice successfully.

1
Sign up to be a provider with every insurance company you can find. This usually just involves submitting an application and getting a provider number. Most insurance companies will put you on their online directory so members can see your contact information.
-
2
Hand out business cards to everyone you know. You can also have eye health brochures printed with your practice's information to display in the lobby of various businesses.
-
-
3
Take out ads in local publications. It's nicer to buy ads in full color magazines as opposed to smaller coupon books. You want to convey a professional image.
-
4
Talk to family practitioners to get on a referral list. When one of his patients needs to see an optometrist, the doctor can referral the patient to you.
-
5
Join a business referral group. If there isn't one in your area, consider starting one. The point of these groups is to refer your clients to other members (and vice versa), so this can be a great networking source.
-
6
Design a website about your practice. Include information about your background and your practice as well as a list of the brands of eyeglasses and contacts you carry in your retail area.
-
7
List yourself on specialty occupation websites (see Resources).

Tips & Warnings
If you can afford it, try making a TV commercial. This is great for optometry practices with state-of-the-art facilities.
If there are any health fairs in your area, you can also consider providing free or discounted eye exams during the event and handing out information about your practice to everyone in attendance.
