How to Make Mineral Blush

For those new to mineral makeup, looking at all of the powdered minerals and trying to decide what to do with them can be quite confusing. However, once you get the hang of it, you can mix and match your own minerals to make the perfect blush.

Things You'll Need

• Mortar and pestle
• 1/4 tsp. dark rose colored mica powder
• 1/8 tsp. mid-tone mica powder
• 1/16 tsp. of blue mica powder
• Cotton swabs
• Small jar with tight fitting lid
• Blush brush

Instructions

1. Measure 1/4 tsp. of a dark rose colored mica powder to the mortar and pestle. The colors you choose for your mineral blush are up to you; however, for best results, choose a dark rose color that matches the color of your inner lips. In this way, you are sure to match your skin tone perfectly.

2. Add 1/8 of a tsp. of a mid-tone mica, such as beige or tan. For a guideline for your mid-tone color, try matching the mineral powder to your skin tone as much as possible. Finally, add 1/16 tsp. of blue mica to the mix. For blonds or those with pale skin, choose baby blue, choosing darker shades of blue for darker skin.

3. Grind the minerals together thoroughly with the mortar and pestle and then place a bit of the makeup on a cotton swab. Rub the swab onto the top of your hand to test the color. Do not add more blue; however, you can add a pinch more of the dark rose or mid-tone micas to adjust the color as you see fit.

4. Transfer your mineral blush to a small jar with a tight fitting lid. To apply, lightly dip your blush brush into the powder and then tap off the excess into the jar. Apply as usual.

Tips & Warnings

• Make your mineral blush with a mortar and pestle that you devote solely to mixing make up. While minerals come in powder form, they are not always as fine as you might like; however, with a few turns of the pestle, you should have the perfect consistency.
