How to Install a Stackable Washer and Dryer

Stackable washer and dryer combos are a good option for people who have limited space for a laundry center. Many stackable washer and dryer combos have most of the features of a conventional washer and dryer set. Some of these combos offer a full size washer and a full size dryer. Installing these combos is similar to installing a conventional washer and dryer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Move the washer and dryer unit as close to the installation point as possible. You will need it close enough so that you can attach the water lines and plug in the unit. If the washer and dryer are separated, leave them apart for now. Keep in mind that you will have to get behind the unit to attach the lines and plug it in.

    • 2

Attach the water lines. The way you do this will vary depending on the model. Some washers will have a screw on mechanism while others use a bolting mechanism. Keep in mind that the cold water hose attaches to the blue fitting on the back of the washer and the hot water hose attaches to the red fitting. If these aren't color coded, the cold water is on the left side when you are looking at the back of the washer.

    • 3

Put the dryer on top of the washer if necessary. Some units are attached at the factory. If this is the case, you can skip this step. Bolt the units together with the bolts provided. It may seem easy to skip doing this, but it is very important that you do it so the unit is safe.

    • 4

Install the dryer vent hose if necessary. If yours is ventless, skip this step and move on to Step 5.

    • 5

Plug the unit into the outlet. Make sure that you use the correct outlet type. Forcing a plug into an outlet is a fire hazard.

    • 6

Test the washer and dryer. It is a good idea to make sure that the water lines are properly attached before you try to wash a load of laundry. Feel the water to make sure that the water is cold on the cold cycle and hot on the hot cycle.

    • 7

Slide the unit into the place where it belongs. Make sure that you leave at least four inches between the back of the unit and the wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some units may have special instructions so it is important to read the directions completely before you attempt install the unit.

  • Never try to attach the water lines while the unit is plugged in. You can get electrocuted.
