How to Make Licorice Mint Tea
Peppermint tea is among the most popular tea flavors, but if you want to put a new spin on that old favorite, try adding a bit of licorice. When you combine peppermint with licorice, you have a an unusual tea that's deliciously refreshing. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Large saucepan
- 6 cups water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 1/2 tsp. dried licorice root
- 1/2 cup dried peppermint leaves
- Strainer
- Cheesecloth or muslin
- 1/3 cup pure organic honey
- 6 cups or mugs
- 6 sprigs of fresh mint

Put 6 cups of water in a large saucepan and bring it to a boil over high heat.

Add 1 cinnamon stick and stir in 2 1/2 tsp. dried licorice root.

Cover the pot loosely and turn the heat to low. Allow the mixture to simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in 1/2 cup dried peppermint leaves. Cover the pot and let the tea steep for 10 minutes.

Lay a piece of folded cheesecloth or muslin in a strainer and pour the tea through the strainer to remove the herbs. Press the cheesecloth or muslin with the back of a large spoon to extract all of the tea.

Stir 1/3 cup of pure organic honey into the tea.

Pour the licorice mint tea into 6 cups or mugs and garnish each one with a fresh mint leaf.

Tips & Warnings
To make iced licorice mint tea, let the tea cool for at least an hour after your stir in the honey. Fill 6 glasses with ice and pour the tea over the ice. Garnish each glass with a sprig of mint.
