Your backyard swimming pool can easily become a Mecca of entertainment for your family, friends and neighbors. With all the fun that swimming pools bring, it's easy to forget about swimming pool maintenance. It's important that you keep up with the paint job on your pool. If you put a bit of thought into it, purchasing swimming pool paint shouldn't be a difficult task at all.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine the amount of money that you're willing to spend on swimming pool paint. Pool paint is relatively inexpensive but it's best to have a set budget before you begin shopping.

  2. Step 2

Know the type of paint that was previously applied to your swimming pool, if any. It's important that you use the same type of paint.

  3. Step 3

Consider the color desired for your swimming pool paint. Pool paints come in a variety of colors from shades of white to deep aqua. Locate a color blends best with your yard and landscaping.

  4. Step 4

Decide which type of paint is most appropriate for your pool if your pool is new. Epoxy paint is generally for new construction and is the most durable paint. Epoxy paint lasts 7-10 years. Rubber base paint is less expensive and lasts 5-7 years. Water base acyclic paint is easiest to apply and lasts 2-3 years.

  5. Step 5

Follow safety guidelines on the package carefully. Be sure to open paint in a well-ventilated area.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read the instructions very carefully on any paint that you buy. Follow the instructions verbatim when using the product.
  • Keep all paint products out of reach of children. Make sure to properly dispose of empty paint containers.
