Things You'll Need:

  • Swimming pool water test kit
  1. Step 1

Purchase a swimming pool test kit that includes a test for PH level and an acid demand test.

  2. Step 2

Perform a pH level test on your swimming pool water. Note the color of the PH level test and save the test water.

  3. Step 3

Use your acid demand test kit to perform the acid demand test on your swimming pool water.

  4. Step 4

Fill up the test tube with the package directions for how much swimming pool water to add. Drop in the reagent into the test water, one drop at a time.

  5. Step 5

Notice when the acid demand test water is the same color as the pH level test water.

  6. Step 6

Count how many drops it took to change the acid demand test water to equal the color of the pH level water.

  7. Step 7

Follow the package directions on your acid demand test kit to decide how many drops equals how much muriatic acid to add to your swimming pool water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rinse all your swimming pool test tube before and after each test to ensure accuracy.
  • If you are using a test tube for testing and not getting an accurate reading, try using the test strips to compare the measured levels.
