How to Hire Manicurists for a Beauty Salon

1
Ask for documentation to prove that she graduated from an accredited cosmetology school. This will ensure she's passed a state examination and mastered cosmetology basics, safety practices, nail health and learned about manicures and pedicures, polishes, solvents and treatments.
-
2
Discover if the candidate has been trained in other skills that might come in handy like creating detailed nail art, hand massage, sales, marketing and even hair removal.
-
-
3
Have her complete a "sample" manicure to see how she organizes her tools and if she's skilled at using files, cuticle tools and emery boards, for example. See if she knows how to shape your nails according to your finger size and if she's able to handle your request for a special technique or polishing style.
-
4
Study her resume for work experience. Contact her former boss to determine what her strengths and weaknesses were to see how well she'll complete your current staff. Discover if there are any reasons why she left the previous job that will also pose a problem for you.
-
5
Consider her communication skills and personality during your interview if it's important for your manicurists to chat and develop a rapport with your customers while they get their nails done. Spend a portion of the interview making small talk to see how friendly she is.
-
6
Give the top candidates a standardized personality test if you've been "fooled" by an interviewee's personality during an interview in the past. A format test can give you more of an indication how her temperament will fit with your management style and if she'll mesh with the current stylists and manicurists.
