Things You'll Need:
- Scissors
- Towel or apron
-
Step 1
Clean your hair and remove residue, such as hairspray and gel. Comb out all tangles. Put on a plastic covering or towel around your shoulders before beginning the cutting.
-
Step 2
Make a part where you would normally let your hair fall. Section hair by left side, right side, top and nape. Section hair again if there's too much hair to work with. Pin hair that you're not cutting back out of the way.
-
Step 3
Start by cutting the unpinned front sections and decide on a length before you start layering. Hold your hair with light tension when cutting each bunch of hair. Pin back hair after you've cut it to get it out of the way.
-
Step 4
Cut your hair on the side sections at an angle, tapering it to frame your face. Match the same pattern for each side. Cut at least 1 inch for the longest layer in the back.
-
Step 5
Cross check your haircut by combing it all out and clip any stray ends that were missed.
-
Step 6
Use the appropriate hair products for fine hair. Add mouse or products that offer volume to plumb fine hair shaft. Mist hairspray at the root to lift fine hair for definition and illusion of fullness.
