Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Install a raised fascia board that has a metal drip edge, and a substrate consisting of ½ inch plywood. Put an underlayment of asphalt felt on top of the plywood. Make sure that the held it breathable as well as synthetic when you install a flat concrete tile roof.

  2. Step 2

Put a "peel and stick" protective and waterproof layer around the skylights, chimneys, stink holes, and more as well as in the valleys of the roof. Seal "penetrations" as well as vents with flashing. Make sure that any water flow that will occur won't be impeded.

  3. Step 3

Apply 1 inch by 2 inch SPF batons made of lumber vertically over each of the rafters or trusses. Follow this with SPF 1 inch by 4 inch lumber batons nailed into 1 inch by 2 inch counterstraps that are spaced according to the length of the flat concrete tile roof you are installing.

  4. Step 4

Use a "rot resistant wood" like cedar or pressure treated wood for the 1 inch by 2 inch batons if specified by the building code in your area when you install flat concrete tiles on your roof.
