How to Jigg for Crappie
A jig is an important type of bait to use while fishing for crappie. Jigging for crappie provides you with several benefits including the fact that you don't have to worry about changing your bait after every catch, nor do you have to deal with live bait. One jig is all that is needed to catch your limit, many times. Plus, when you find a large group of fish, jigging will give you speed in catching as many of them as possible.

1
Choose small jigs when the water you are fishing in is clear. Choose a white or yellow haired jig in this type of water. This will give more reflection in the water which catches the eye of the fish faster and more often.

2
Select jigs that are combinations of colors in water that is less clear. For example, Hal Flies are a good option because they have various colors. Some are designed to have yellow tails, green bodies and red heads, which work well.

3
Use movement with your jig. Moving the jig, such as dabbling it, drifting it and tolling it, will give the crappie more opportunity to see the fish and to react to it. Jigging for crappie isn't as effective if you need to keep the bait still.

4
Increase your catch in areas where there is a larger amount of brush and debris by using a crappie pole to drop your crappie jigs into these areas. You will find these areas are ideal for finding larger fish. Jigging for crappie in difficult areas is easier to do than using live bait since the jigs will stay on more readily.
