Things You'll Need:
- Clock with chimes
- Clock key or weights
- my instructions :)
-
Step 1
First, make sure that the clock is still level by setting a level on top. If not, correct the level. Make sure the pendulum is still before setting the time.
-
Step 2
Chances are the clock's chimes are still wound enough to chime so when setting the time carefully move the minute hand clockwise to the next quarter hour. Pause to allow the chime to "do its thing". Do not move the hour hand; it will move automatically with the minute hand.
-
Step 3
Repeat step 2 until you get to the hour mark. Allow the chime to go through the complete cycle and count the hour strikes. Continue this until you have set the clock to the right time.
-
Step 4
Don't worry if the clock's chimes are not in sync with the time.
[example: it is 4:00 but your clock chimes 11:00] It should correct itself within two hours. Simply wind the clock [key or weights depending on the clock] and start the pendulum. -
Step 5
Check the clock after a day or two to see if it is gaining or losing time. The pendulum should have a small screw nut on it that will adjust how fast or slow the clock will run. Turning the nut to the left slows down the time and turning to the right makes it run faster. Make sure to adjust it a tiny bit each time until the desired setting is achieved.
-
Step 6
For further Maintenance: A clock should be cleaned once every 3-4 years. This will also include oiling and adjustment. Most repairmen will schedule home visits for maintenance. Although a bit more expensive it is well worth the extra money to not have to move the clock.
