Step 1
Look in your Jewelry Box. I was surprised at what I found in my jewelry box. Over the years people had given me gold earrings, and sometimes I’d lose one of the pair. I had several lone earrings. I also had broken rings, where the settings had long since been removed, and several twisted gold bracelets, beyond repair. What I thought was junk, totaled over $800.

Step 2
Go to garage sales. You never know what you will find at a garage sale. That same type of “junk” I found in my jewelry box may be on sale at the yard sale down the street.
-
Step 3
Use a metal detector. If you have a metal detector, visit the beach or parks after a holiday. It is amazing what you might find.
-
Step 4
Try some gold panning. It’s how it used to be done, the old fashioned way. (Although I don’t believe it would be called “scrap” gold). According to mining experts, there is still gold in them thar hills!
