How to Teach Your Dog to Roll Over
Teaching a dog to perform tricks takes patience and repetition. Before you start, ensure that your dog is healthy -- and willing. Then have plenty of treats on hand. You may need a few to teach a dog to roll over.

1
Start by teaching your dog to play dead on its side. Give treats for performing this trick, then move on to rolling over.
-
2
Once you get your dog on its side, pet it, rub its belly and touch its legs. Dogs aren't used to people touching their legs, so doing this will get them used to it.

-
3
Give the command "roll over," then gently roll the dog over by grabbing its legs and moving them from one side to the next. Reward your dog with a treat and praise after the movement.
-
4
If your dog doesn't appear comfortable when you grab its legs, use a treat to lead it through the movement. With your dog lying on its side, say "roll over," then show the dog a treat. Move the treat to the other side so that it must roll over to follow it. Then reward with a treat and praise.
