Things You'll Need:
- Flowers from a flat or pot
- Small shovel or trowel
- Plant food
- Gardening gloves (optional)
- Water
- Dirt area to plant flowers
-
Step 1
First, make sure that the dirt where you will plant is loose. It may help to rake the area first, and break up the dirt. Dig a hole that is slightly wider and deeper than your plant. Now is the time to sprinkle in some plant food in the hole.
Then, take the plant out of it's container. It may help to tilt the container and squeeze it slightly to get the plant and it's roots to come out. -
Step 2
Now you need to break up the roots a little to promote them to spread and grow. Just hold the dirt part of the plant and pull it apart slightly, without completely separating it. It's okay to break the roots.

Step 3
Set the plant inside the hole, making sure it fits inside completely and that there is enough room at the top to cover some dirt over it.
Fill the dirt in the hole using a shovel or your hands. Fill the hole completely, and covering the plant's dirt as well. Hold the flower up to fill the dirt in around it without covering the plant. Pack the dirt lightly to get rid of any air pockets. Level the dirt around the plant and water it.
