Make a Simple Eye Loop
Make a Simple Eye Loop

Learn how to make a simple eye loop so that you can make your own earrings!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Round Nose Pliers
  • Chain Nose Pliers
  • Head pin
  1. Step 1
Wire is flush in the Round Nose Pliers
Wire is flush in the Round Nose Pliers

Place wire in round nose pliers with wire facing down & top of wire flush with pliers. Run your finger across the top to see if you feel the wire. If you do, then move it down into the pliers just a bit. You want it to be flush.

  2. Step 2
Roll down the thumb to make the loop
Roll down the thumb to make the loop

Put your left thumb in the hitchhiker position. Place the wire you are holding on the pad of your left thumb. (if you are right handed) Make sure the long part is facing your palm. With your right hand quickly bend wire away from you on thumb. Remove the pliers. You should have a circle and a straight piece.

  3. Step 3
    Break the neck
    Break the neck

Put the tip of your Chain Nose pliers just inside the loop on the straight wire side. Place the loop on your left index finger & “break the neck” on your finger. This is quick "SMALL" movement to put a little kink in the loop. I basically just take it from my thumb and put it on my finger. After you break the neck - use your Round Nose Pliers again to straighten the head on top of the wire as show in the preview picture. This is usually a small movement.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy some inexpensive craft wire to practice on.
  • Make a mark with a sharpie on your round nose pliers where you place the wire so that the loops will always be the same size.
  • Always make sure your wire is "flush cut". Use the flat part of your wire cutters facing the long wire to do this.
  • Over working your wire will end in it breaking. Use cheap wire to practice so you don't feel bad about throwing it away.
