Things You'll Need:
- Comittment to saving energy
-
Step 1
1. Use a box, oscillating or ceiling fan.
The moving air will cool you creating less reliance on air conditioning. -
Step 2
2. Change the air conditioner filter.
A lot of us forget to clean or change the filter on our air conditioner. Clean it about once a month and change it annually. -
Step 3
3. Check and replace the furnace filter. Also clean the outside coil.
-
Step 4
4. Close the blinds.
Closing the blinds before the sun gets a chance to heat up the house will keep your house cooler during the day. Then open windows at night to cool the house down. -
Step 5
5. Don’t turn down the temperature drastically on your thermostat.
This will not cool down your house any faster. -
Step 6
6. Weather strip and caulk.
Do this to your doors and windows if you can see light or feel air coming through them. -
Step 7
7. Lower the temperature on your water heater.
Turn it down to 120F ( unless your dishwasher requires a higher temperature.) -
Step 8
8. Wash only full louds.
Washing full loads saves you in so many ways. You save energy, soap, time, etc. -
Step 9
9. Use fluorescent light bulbs.
When replacing light bulbs use Energy Star* qualified compact fluorescent light (CFI) bulbs. -
Step 10
10. Make sure the radiator fluid on your automobile is flushed. This should be checked before the beginning of Winter and Summer.
