Kickboxing is a style of combat that incorporates the use of martial art-like kicks and boxing punches. The sport was at first popularized as an aerobic activity, but soon caught on as an exciting competitive event. Here's how to perform one of the basic moves in women's kickboxing, the flying side kick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hanging Punching Bag
  • Practice Space
  1. Step 1

Face the punching bag in a staggered stance. Your left foot should be placed a bit forward and your right a little more to the rear, but your body should still directly face the punching bag. Keep your fists up in front of your upper chest to protect your throat and chest. You should be standing far enough away that if you were to extend your left fist it would only just touch the bag and set it swinging.

  2. Step 2

Turn slightly to your right and pull back your right elbow back behind you and to your side. Keep the flat of your clenched fist aimed at the punching bag, with your wrist straight like a battering ram.

  3. Step 3

Take a full pace forward with your right foot and turn your hips back to your left while driving your right fist forward. If you time the pace and the twisting of the hips correctly, it will give a huge amount of force to your punch. The impact should begin with the first two knuckles of the fist. If the punch lands cleanly, continue to drive your fist through the target as far as you can. Remember to keep your left fist up the whole time to guard your left side.

  4. Step 4

Turn at the hip back to face the target squarely and step back with your right foot into your original position to end the punch.
