Step 1
The view of the lake and moutains from our room.As soon as you drive up the hill to this Hampton Inn, you'll see some of the original farm equipment used in the making of the movie Roots. You'll want to walk past the entrance to the hotel to check out the overlook. You'll be greeted by a beautiful lake and mountain view. Sit a spell on the swings built for two, or enjoy your hot breakfast seated at one of the wrought-iron café style table and chairs. During the evening hours, white lights along the fence line create a welcoming atmosphere.
-
Step 2
As you approach the front entrance, there are great wooden rocking chairs that beckon to you to sit a spell. Two old cars grace the front entrance as well, lending a bit of nostalgia to those who remember the "good ole' days". Beautiful flower arrangements bring color and warmth to the entrance as well. You'll experience true Southern hospitality upon your arrival at the front desk, which is just inside the front doors. Be sure to ask Ms. Heather how she passes summer days with simply a piece of string and a junebug!
-
Step 3
The rooms are absolutely immaculate! We had a non-smoking room with two queen size beds overlooking the mountains. I've never experienced such comfortable mattresses in a hotel! The beds were covered with beautiful white, plush duvet covers that were just the right weight. Three plush large pillows are on each bed so you can watch television sitting up or simply cradle your body in comfort to sleep. Our room had a desk and comfortable chair, an armoire for hanging clothes, several drawers for personal items, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer, and a television. The color of the room was a calming neutral. Two sets of curtains, one sheer and one heavier, allow you to make the room bright during the day or dark at night. The air conditioning worked beautifully which was important during those 95-degree days.
-
Step 4
The bathroom wasn't the typical rectangle or square shape. It was spacious compared to most hotel bathrooms and very clean. You'll enjoy a hot shower with the adjustable massaging showerhead. The water pressure was strong and consistent, even during high volume times. The tub, sink, floor, and toilet were immaculate. Ms. Debbie was our housekeeper during our stay. She was very friendly with a quick smile and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
-
Step 5
The amenities in the Hampton Inn, Caryville TN will make you feel right at home. The swimming pool is surrounded with lush flowering trees and comfortable lounge chairs. Just like the rooms and hotel, the pool is sparkling clean and inviting. The fitness area is small, but offers a treadmill, stair stepping machine, and two different stationary bicycles. There is a television mounted on the wall for your enjoyment.
-
Step 6
You'll love the hot, complimentary breakfast that greets you in the morning! The first morning we were there, the hot items were eggs and sausage. The second day was a delicious offering of French toast sticks and sausage. Each morning you'll find a variety of sweet rolls, muffins, bagels, English muffins, and whole grain bread for toasting. You can also choose from fruit, yogurt, and a variety of breakfast cereals. Hot beverages include robust coffee, decaf coffee, regular coffee, hot chocolate, and hot tea. Cold beverages include ice water, juices, and milk. Breakfast hours run from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The first morning, we didn't arrive at breakfast until 9 a.m. and fully expected that the selection would be minimal. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the food is consistently replenished, right up until the last few minutes of the breakfast hour so that no one goes hungry. Ms. Betty greeted us with a smile and her wonderful Southern accent, making us feel at home right away. As we were eating breakfast, the owner of the hotel, Mr. Hack Avery, came to our table and chatted with us. He is a wonderfully warm and gracious gentleman. It is no surprise that his hotel is such a wonderful place to stay.
-
Step 7
Take time to read the old newspaper clippings and items of historic interest as you walk through the halls. Every hallway is decorated with pieces of antique furniture and newspapers or articles speaking of the history of the area. If you'd like to know more about Mr. Hack Avery and his family history, be sure to check out the area around the first floor of the hotel by the elevator. The history surrounding the Avery family is quite interesting!
-
Step 8
You'll find freshly baked cookies and popcorn awaiting you each evening around 6 p.m. in the lobby/breakfast area. The hotel associates have fresh, hot beverages throughout the day and evening for you as well.
-
Step 9
A view from the top of the Norris Lake Dam.By staying at the Hampton Inn, Caryville TN, you are within easy driving distance of at least three beautiful State Parks. Cove Lake State Park, Cumberland Gap State Park or Norris Dam State Park are all within minutes of the hotel. See the links at the end of the article for more information.
-
Step 10
Restaurants and shopping are within easy driving distance of the hotel. Two restaurants worthy of mentioning are Twin Cove Marina Restaurant and Rickard Ridge BBQ. You also have the typical fast food restaurants such as Wendy's, Subway, and Zaxby's right down the road.

on 11/7/2009 Great article. I'm staying at a Hampton Inn in Baton Rouge, La. Although this one is not as nice as the other Hampton in BR, overall they are usually quite nice. 5 * and recommend.

on 7/25/2008 Sounds like a great place to stay in the mountains! Many of the Hamptons have these amenities, but this one sounds like it goes even a little bit further. Thanks for adding the cost - was this "in season" or "off season"?
