Develop field experience. The first thing you need to do when pursuing anything in the athletics field is to develop your field experience. Your field experience as a prospective cheerleading coach needs to be cheerleading related. The perfect start for someone wishing to be a cheerleading coach is in high school cheerleading, college cheerleading or both. Either way you choose to go, a firm background and field record are probably going to be required by the person hiring you.

Get the education. Secondly, people wishing to become cheerleader coaches may need at least a four-year education at a college or university. For those who want to become a coach in high school will need to probably major in education or gain some sort of teaching experience. If you will be coaching on the college level, a study path in education is less required, because you will need to pursue more of a exercise science study background.

Develop a resume. After you have your field and study records loaded and under your belt, you will need to get together a resume. You don't need to develop just any resume, you need to develop a very impressive one, because the person looking at your resume is hiring someone to work with younger mostly female students who need guidance and direction and a moral person with experience.
