How to Learn to Count
Learning to count is one of the first tasks a child will accomplish. Kids usually learn to count before entering Kindergarten. A child's mind absorbs like a sponge, and with so many children's educational toys, it is very likely that the child will be exposed to numbers at an early age. Here's what you can do to help your youngster learn how to count.

Repetition on a consistent basis is a good way to begin to learn to count. Count fingers, toys, cookies or whatever is at hand. Begin counting to 20, then add more numbers.
-
2
Use worksheets. Numbered dot-to-dot color sheets, traceable numbers or numerous counting activities are available on the Internet for you to print for your child (see Resources below).

3
Read a book together. So many children's books are filled with opportunities to learn numbers. Kids love to interact with a story by actually counting objects on the pages of the book (see Resources below).

Magnetic numbers are great for teaching number recognition. Have these available on the refrigerator for everyday use.
