How to Get Government Money to Write a Book

Government grants can give you the money you need to finish your book.

Many people don't know this, but you can get government grants to fund a book that you want to write. This funding can cover expenses, travel costs and more. The only problem is that these grants are very hard to get.

Instructions

1. Outline your book and write at least one sample chapter. You will need to show grant providers that you are serious, know where your book is going and that you have impeccable writing skills.

2. Write a cover letter explaining your book and why you feel you should receive a grant. Make sure there are no spelling or grammar errors. The writing needs to be impeccable. This cover letter will need to be tweaked depending on which grant you are applying for.

3. Find grants that fit your location and subject matter. Subscribe to the Funds for Writers newsletter. This newsletter has lists of writer's grants and has tips that are invaluable to writers needing grant money.

4. Read the instructions of each grant's application process and follow it to the 't.' Grant offices don't have time for people who don't follow directions.

5. Mail the application and wait. Be patient. Most people have to try many different grants before they are accepted.
