Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Art supplies
  • Stamps
  • Ink pad
  • Ribbon
  1. Step 1

Assemble your art supplies and paper. Unused butcher paper, newsprint rolls, blank packing paper or paper used to wrap breakables are all good options. You need a large piece of paper that will take paint, ink or marker and is relatively blank. Gather any art supplies that strike your fancy: paint and finger paint, sponges, ink, stamps and markers.

  2. Step 2

Cut paper to the size needed for your gift, unless you are making the paper for later use. Spread paper on a clean, dry, protected surface, or attach it to your easel.

  3. Step 3

Begin the decoration process, using either a repeating pattern or a completely freestyle approach. Sponges cut into shapes and dipped in paint are good for making rows or designs of colorful repeating designs. Stamps and ink or painting with a brush are also good techniques.

  4. Step 4

Use markers or calligraphy pens to add words such as "Happy Birthday" or "Christmas Wishes" to the paper.

  5. Step 5

Use wide paintbrushes dipped into light watercolors to wash color onto the paper, creating continuity between bolder designs and covering any white spots, giving the paper a finished look.

  6. Step 6

Allow paper to dry completely before wrapping the gift or storing the paper for later use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try decorating a whole roll of paper, and then rolling it back up, to have a large supply of wrapping paper on hand.
  • Add ribbon and bows to your gift wrapping paper either during the decoration stage or while wrapping the gift.
