How to Find Sea Glass

Sea glass can come in different styles, colors and designs. Some can be several years old, left over from a piece of colorful glass, eventually making its way to the shore side. Many times the glass is contorted or formed into a unique shape after years of being formed by the salt water, rocks and currents. Sea glass can be easy to find if you are looking in the right locations.

• Onion bag

Instructions

1. 

   Pan a trip to your favorite beach on a sunny morning .

2. 

   Bring along an empty onion bag to store the sea glass while you search. The onion bag allows for sand and dirt particles to fall off naturally as you walk along the shoreline.

3. Look for colored objects along the shoreline that catch your eye; these may be sea glass. The shining sun helps reflect the light and makes it easier to spot sea glass.

4. Look for sea glass within the current when the waves wash up onto the shore.

5. 

   Check for sea glass under driftwood, seaweed and other shells that have washed up further onto the shoreline.

Tips & Warnings

• Finding blue and green glass is a rarity, and they are considered quite valuable. Some glass may be hazy or have a smoky hue to it; this means that it has weathered for several months, even years, making it smoother and more unique to look at. Most sea glass should have smooth edges; these are perfect for collecting.

• Be sure to wash glass thoroughly once you have sorted through it; this will wash off germs and bacteria.

• Watch for sharp edges on the sides of the glass; this could cause a cut in skin.
