How to Pinch a Lacrosse Stick

Lacrosse is a sport that is incredibly popular among high school and college aged students in the eastern half of the United States. Most high schools and many eastern colleges have both men's and women's lacrosse teams. The sport, which was invented by the American Indians, continues to spread across the country. Lacrosse is played using a standard stick and ball. To become more comfortable playing the ball though many players "pinch their sticks" to form the head and netting to suit their purposes. Instructions

  1. First Method

    • 1

Lay the lacrosse stick on the ground with the head of the lacrosse stick near your feet and the shaft of the stick pointing away from you.

    • 2

Lean over and grab the shaft of the lacrosse stick, and pull up on the stick pulling it towards your body.

    • 3

Repeat this step several times, it will start to narrow the head of the lacrosse stick and form more of a lip around the edge. This method of pinching makes it easier to cradle the lacrosse ball.

    Second Method

    • 4

Place the lacrosse stick on the ground as you would for a face off. This will start to bend the sides of the head of the lacrosse stick inward.

    • 5

Apply force to the lacrosse stick in this position and maintain the force. It will take time to bend the head or mold the head of your lacrosse stick into the "pinch" you prefer.

    • 6

Repeat this for both sides of the head of the lacrosse stick so it is evenly pinched.

    The Baseball Glove Method

    • 7

Place a lacrosse ball in the webbing of the lacrosse stick.

    • 8

Take a rope and tie it around the head of the lacrosse stick, pulling the edges in to "cradle" the lacrosse ball. Be careful about making the rope too tight though.

    • 9

Put the lacrosse stick in the freezer for several hours. This will help mold the head of the lacrosse stick into the pinched form you have made using the rope and ball.

Tips & Warnings

  • PInching a lacrosse stick gives you more control of the ball. It also makes it easy to cradle when you run down the field and avoid having it stolen by a defender.

  • The third method that involves putting your lacrosse stick in the freezer can involve creating the larges "pinch" to the head of your lacrosse stick. Be careful though, as if you pinch it too much, it will take a longer time than the others to mold it to a wider pinch over time.
