How to Know If You Have Manic Depression

Feeling depressed is a common occurrence, but chronic depression is a serious issue that many people face. Yet these individuals don’t often know if they have manic depression. Manic depression is another term for the depression side of bipolar disorder. If you have this, it is important to seek help.

      Watch your mood swings. People who are manic depressive often have severe mood swings ranging from being sad to being angry to feeling extreme anxiety and also appearing very irritable. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you could have manic depression.

      Monitor your feelings. Common symptoms of manic depression are feeling of worthlessness, hopelessness and eternal pessimism. If you are suddenly experiencing these feelings, seek medical attention.

      Count your tears. If you are an emotional person and crying has always been a common occurrence for you, this may not be a problem. However, if you are crying more frequently than usual and you often don’t know why you are crying, you could have manic depression.

      Study your sleep habits. Manic depression causes several problems with your sleeping patterns. These problems can include extreme insomnia, waking up too early in the morning, experiencing extreme fatigue or oversleeping. If these patterns persist, seek help.

      Think about your decisions. Another symptom of manic depression is having difficulties making decisions. Think back to the decisions you have tried to make as well as any difficulty you have had concentrating or remembering to see if you have any problems.

      Seek treatment for other symptoms. Another way to know if you have manic depression is to seek treatment for symptoms such as headaches or chronic pain. If you seek treatment and your symptoms cannot be treated, you may be experiencing manic depression.
