Instructions

    • 1

Decide on a place or shelf in your home where you will establish your library. Make sure that the shelf will occupy only books. Keep clutter away from these shelves.

    • 2

Create a plan of action as to how you will organize the books in your library. You can place them alphabetically, by author or by topic.

    • 3

Make piles of your books on a table and stack them according to topic. For example, have a pile for fiction, a separate pile for reference, another pile for religious and inspirational and yet another pile for educational.

    • 4

Arrange each pile alphabetically. This can be done by author or by title, but you're more likely to search through your library by title rather than by author.

    • 5

Place each pile on your library shelf. Make sure to place book ends on each side of your shelf if your shelf is an open one. You can label each section if you think you need to, but after a while you will get used to where certain topics are.

    • 6

Dust off your shelf at least weekly. Keeping it clean will encourage you and other household members to pick up a book and read.

    • 7

Get rid of books that you have already read. Of course, keep those books that you think you may want to read again. Passing on books that you have already read will give someone else a chance to read them and give you more room on your shelf for new books that you haven’t read yet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Find books for nearly nothing at your local thrift store or library.

  • Ask friends if they would like to book swap with you.
