Instructions

    • 1

Take your embroidery hoop and fit it snugly over the flower pot or any hard circular object you intend to use as a drum. Take this hoop and make a pattern over a flattened beach ball. Use a permanent marker and give yourself and extra inch around the outer edge of the hoop.

    • 2

Follow the pattern you just made with a pair of scissors. This will be your drum skin, so be sure to use a side of the ball that does not include the air valve. You want a flat portion of the ball with no rips in the seams.

    • 3

Secure the drum skin over the small, inner portion of the hoop with an even amount of slack on all sides. Fit the larger, outer hoop around this hoop and make the skin is tight and immovable. If you have trouble getting it to stay in place, begin this step again.

    • 4

Use a strong epoxy such as carpenter’s glue and run a generous amount around the rim of the drum body. Place the drum skin over the glue and make a secure connection between the two.

    • 5

Allow the glue to dry for the amount of time specified on the packaging. When finished, lightly beat the drum. Increase the force with which you hit the drum when you are confident it is sturdy.
