Instructions

    • 1

Make your own brew of ginger tea or buy it from the store. When making your own ginger tea, shave off 1 inch of the skin, grate the shaved ginger into a mug and pour hot water over it. Let it steep for a few minutes, strain and remove the grated ginger, add whatever you want to taste and sip it slowly. Sipping ginger tea slowly will increase saliva production and wash down any acids left in your esophagus.

    • 2

Complete Step 1 again for the chamomile tea. Chamomile is known to ease digestive distress and when sipped slowly can wash away any left over residual in the esophagus and relieve acid reflux or heartburn.

    • 3

Swallow a tsp. of mustard and it can relieve heartburn fast. This may come as a surprise to most people because some people say mustard makes their heartburn even worse. However, some people have tried this and it has helped them.

    • 4

Take 2 tsps. of diluted apple cider vinegar and swallow it. With the acid in vinegar this seems like it would make heartburn worse but people who have tried this remedy say it actually relieves their heartburn.

    • 5

Dissolve a 1/2 tsp. of baking soda in a half glass of water and drink it every two hours or as directed by your doctor. This home remedy is supposed to be the fastest working remedy for heartburn.

Tips & Warnings

  • Just by swallowing your own saliva, can help relieve heartburn. Research has shown that residual acid is neutralized by saliva. Not only can saliva buffer acid but by swallowing saliva increases the muscular contractions in your esophagus which in turn can move acid back into your stomach where it belongs.

  • Chewing gum can increase your saliva and help relieve heartburn as well. Chewing gum can increase the flow of saliva and decrease the amount of time acid is bathed in the esophagus.

  • When using ginger tea as a home remedy for heartburn, be careful if you are on any kind of blood thinners because ginger tea can make you more vulnerable to bleeding.

  • When using chamomile tea as a home remedy watch out for rash, stomach cramps, and difficulty breathing.

  • If you are allergic to ragweed or chrysanthemums you should not use chamomile because it could cause an allergic reaction since it is from the same family.

  • Do not use the baking soda remedy after eating too much because it can cause a spontaneous rupture of the stomach.
