Flickr is one of the many online photo-sharing websites available on the Internet. Owned by Yahoo!, Flickr is popular for many of its advanced features, such as tagging and geotagging. If you're a new user, however, you'll need to master the basics of Flickr before you get fancy with any of the advanced features. If you have digital photos on your computer that you'd like to share with friends and family, Flickr is a great place to post your photos. Read on to learn how to post photos on Flickr.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Digital photos
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a free Flickr account. If you have a Yahoo! ID, this is as easy as going to the Flickr website and logging in with your Yahoo! ID and password. The log in button is located at the top right of the Flickr homepage. If you do not have a Yahoo! ID, you will need to sign up for one in order to use the Flickr website. This is very easy to do right from the Flickr front page. Simply click the "Create Your Account" button at the top of the page.

  2. Step 2

Once you are logged in, click on the link at the top right of the Flickr homepage that says "Upload Photos or Videos."

  3. Step 3

Choose your method of uploading photos. If you are only uploading a few snapshots, you might choose to upload your pictures manually. To do this, click on the link at the top of this page that says, "Choose photos and videos." From this link you will be directed through the steps to locate the photos on your computer that you'd like to upload.

  4. Step 4

If you are uploading more than a few photos, it is recommended that you use one of Flickr's uploading tools. At the bottom of the "Upload your photos and videos" page, click on the link that says "Basic Uploader." From here you will be taken to a page that allows you to browse to various photos on your computer. After you've chosen the photos you'd like to upload, click on the blue "Upload" button at the bottom of the page.

  5. Step 5

Finally, there are numerous, more sophisticated photo uploading tools available from Flickr. From the "Upload your photos and videos" page, click the link for "the Flickr tools page." From here you will be brought to a page filled with different applications meant for specific uses, such as uploading to Flickr from your mobile phone or your email, or uploading tools developed for your specific computer (Mac or PC) or operating system (Linux, Mac OS X or Windows). One of these uploading tools may suit your needs better than the basic web-based Flickr uploader.

  6. Step 6

After you have successfully chosen your method of uploading, choose the photos that you'd like to post on Flickr and follow the uploading instructions for your specific tool.

  7. Step 7

Choose the privacy setting for your photos. You can mark your photos private, visible to friends and family, or public, which means they're visible to anyone.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can post up to 100MB of photos for free each month on Flickr. If you would like to post more than that, you can purchase a Pro account for $24.95 a year, allowing you to post an unlimited amount of photos.
  • If you have the basic, free Flickr account, your photos must not be bigger than 10MB each. With the Pro Flickr account, your photos may be as big as 20MB each.
