The new generation in video game platforms, which includes the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, offer their clients the ability to surf the Internet using their gaming console's built-in browser. But using a Playstation 3 to surf the Internet will seem strange to some users at first because the experience is so different from that found on a standard computer. Here's how to surf the Internet using your Playstation 3.

    Things You'll Need

    • Playstation 3
    • High speed Internet connection
    • Wireless controller

        Hook the Playstation 3 up to the Internet. You can do this by connecting the Playstation 3 to your high speed Internet modem with a USB cord, wireless router or an Ethernet cable.

        Start the Playstation 3.

        Turn on your wireless PS3 controller.

        Scroll over to the "Network" tab on the main Playstation 3 menu screen.

        Choose "Internet Browser" out of the options listed under the "Network" tab. Do so by pressing down on the direction pad of your wireless controller until "Internet Browser" is highlighted and then press the "X" button to select.

        Wait for the Playstation homepage to load.

        Press the Triangle button to bring up the Internet browser menu.

        Use the menu and the wireless controller to navigate from page to page.

        Surf the Internet as you normally would.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Your Playstation 3 doesn't require a wireless card--it has one built right into it.

    • it's very cumbersome to do any sort of writing, emailing or word processing of any sort with the Playstation 3's browser, so don't go throwing your PC out just yet.

    • You can plug any USB keyboards or mice into the USB ports on the front of your Playstation 3 and use them to help you navigate online.

    • Don't expect the Internet on your Playstation 3 to work as well as it does on your personal computer, or to even look the same. There are still quite a few bugs and resolution problems to be worked out before it'll really stand a chance of competing.
