Instructions

    • 1

Locate the hole where the hornets are. You need to find the opening or you won't be able to get rid of them. Be sure to stay away from the opening since they will be flying in and out, and you could get stung. Wait and go back a few hours after the sun has set.

    • 2

Check that no hornets are flying in or out of the hole. They should all be inside the hole asleep. Usually this will be the case if it's been dark for a few hours. Approach the hole cautiously with a gallon of gasoline. Pour the gasoline into the hole, and on the ground around the hole. Don't get too much on the grass, however. You don't want to torch the entire yard!

    • 3

Stand back and light the gasoline. The easiest way to do this is to make a small torch and light it. Then throw it onto the gasoline close to the hole. Do not get too close or you could burn yourself.

    • 4

Stay in the area until the fire has gone out. If you don't feel comfortable pouring gasoline down the hole, just pour it around the hole and cover the hole with dirt after you've burned the ground. Do not leave while the fire is burning! You don't want it to spread. This method should burn out the hornets, and you won't have to worry about them anymore.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are uncomfortable using gasoline, you can buy a smoke bomb from the insect repellent section. Just stick it in the hole and light it. It will smoke them out without the fire.

  • Keep water on hand in case you need to put the fire out!
