The fern is one of the oldest plants on Earth, dating back over 400 million years. Ferns are found all over the world, and are a diverse group of plants. They grow indoors and out, and are a beautiful addition to any landscape. Ferns are sensitive plants and sometimes subject to sagging, but creating the following tonic will help your ferns regain their health.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Add 1 tbsp. of castor oil and 1 tbsp. of mild shampoo to 1 qt. of water.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the water is room temperature. If you use cold water, you may be shocking the sensitive fern's roots.

  3. Step 3

Mix the solution, ensuring that the castor oil and shampoo are well-combined in the water.

  4. Step 4

Water each fern with 4 oz. of the tonic. Within a week, you should see a reduction in the sagging they have been exhibiting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take care not to over-water your ferns. It's the number one cause of sagging ferns.
  • Ferns need sunlight and water once a week--adjust as needed for your climate.
