        Experience the image of wild ocean waves that crash along the sea caves, cliffs, and sea stacks, ending at the ocean swept tip, overlooking Tatoosh Island. This is an excellent spot for seeing the migrating birds and whales. Stroll along the vast sandy beaches and feel the wonderful sea mist on your face near Neah Bay.

        Drive along these beaches that will eventually take you to one of the most photographed spots in this area, Shi Shi Beach. Hike a 2-mile, one-way trail which is made of hand-hued cedar board walks that ends with a steep beach trail. There’s free parking at the trailhead. Visit the Point of Arches, this marine sanctuary points to beautiful bird scenery.

        Hike well-maintained trails through enchanting old forests of towering firs and delicate ferns at the River at Salmon Cascades. Note the splendor of Sol Duc Falls, near a peaceful mountain meadow. Look for the original home of the historic Cape Flattery Lighthouse on one of these trails. The 20 to 30 minute hike is worth the breath-taking views that greet hikers at the end. Relax on one of the observation perches with cedar decks and guardrails and watch 250 species of birds that live along this beautiful Northwest coastline.

        Go to the Makah Museum, which is 30 minutes down the coastline. The legacy in this world class museum is in the viewing of the 500+ year old artifacts that are displayed so perfectly. Visitors can even hold many of these articles. There is also a new marina where the commercial fishing boats come in and out of the harbor here.

        Drive to Hurricane Ridge and explore the views of the Straits of Juan de Fuca, Port Angeles, Mt. Angeles and the Olympic Mountains. Daydream in the meadows of wildflowers and black-tailed deer.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Take plenty of water, both for you and your traveling vehicle. You may even want to take some extra oil and gas. Rent a boat and go fishing, diving, kayaking, whale-seeking, or other wildlife viewing. There is moorage available as well as a boat launch. Divers will find air, surfers, and waves, etc.

    • Be extra careful and aware of snakes, since some of this trip is through lonely country. Make sure your traveling vehicle is in proper running condition. Do not get stranded on this stretch of road, if you can avert it.
