1. Prepare the motorcycle for shipping. Drain the gas from the tank and disconnect the battery. Check to see that the tires are properly inflated. Fold the mirrors down and secure any special items (for example saddlebags and fairings). Remove any personal items from saddlebags or other compartments. 4. Provide a photocopy of the list of any dents or scrapes to the transport company when they pick up the motorcycle. Keep the keys and title in your possession and get a receipt from the driver. You can check on the status and location of your bike during shipment with most companies. Make sure the bike is in neutral—leaving the transmission in gear can cause damage during shipment.

on 10/27/2008 Good tips, WD. I'd also like to add that if you work with a company that ships in enclosed trailers, you don't need to drain fluids, disconnect the battery, or crate and palletize your bike. Your bike can be shipped and delivered in "ready to ride" condition.
