How to Become an Immigration Bail Bondsman
An immigration bail bondsman works in much the same way as a regular bail bondsman. They offer the money to pay to bail someone out of jail and receive the money back plus interest once the person returns for their court appearance. But in this case they handle primarily immigrants, either illegal or with a visa. The process of becoming an immigration bail bondsman varies from state to state, but some things remain constant.

1
Check to see if your state currently does immigration bail bonds. This process is still relatively new and not all states are capable of handling such bonds. Other states have only a small number of immigrants and therefore don’t need the bonds. You need to check on this before you start working in the field.
-
2
Become licensed as a bails bondsman according to the regulations of your state. The process changes from state to state, with no two states using the same process. The states that do handle immigration bonds require their bondsman to meet the same regulations and requirements as a regular bondsman.

3
Undergo a background, credit and fingerprint check. These requirements are in place in all states because bondsmen need to have a clean criminal history and have the money needed to pay multiple bonds at one time. Most of these checks can be done by the police station in your area.
-
4
Contact bail bondsman in your immediate area and those in the surrounding areas if you want to work for a company. You can find a list of these companies by contacting the local police station. You should call the companies directly and ask about jobs, or send them a copy of your resume along with a cover letter.
-
5
Secure funding for a personal business and set up your own company as a bail bondsman. Since you’ll be working on your own and immigration isn’t that big of a market, you’ll probably want to handle individual or regular bonds as well. In addition, you’ll need to contact courts in your area about working with them, and also advertise for potential clients.
