How to Make Perfume From Essential Oils

Essential oils can be used for many different things, from cleaning to alternative medications. They can also be used in beauty treatments and even in making your own perfume. Before you undertake the challenge of perfume making you should learn all of the facts and precautions of using essential oils. It is highly recommended to purchase a book about the use of essential oils and do some research. These oils are fun to experiment with and can save you a lot of money.

Things You'll Need

• Various essential oils of choice
• Vodka
• Coffee filters
• Small bottles
• Large glass container

Instructions

1. Gather or purchase the essential oils of your choice. There are many recipes of different mixtures, but it comes down to experimenting to find the scent you prefer. Always note the amount of drops you use and what oil it was. This way you can duplicate it, or not use it again, depending on how you liked it.

2. Using the formula of about 85% of alcohol to 15% of essential oils is a good start in figuring your measuring. Start with a very small amount at first. Choose the essential oils that are to your liking. You may wish to mix lavender, rose and vanilla for a light scent, or you may prefer something stronger.

3. Stir the vodka and oils together then cover them and let them sit for a couple of days. Add 2 tablespoons of spring water for every 2 ounces of vodka that you used. Let this stand another couple of days.

4. Smell the aroma that you have mixed. If it seems to be a little strong, add more spring water to dilute the strength of the smell. Mixing oils for a certain smell is done by trial and error mostly. Only the one mixing will know what scents they prefer.

5. To store your new perfumes, use a coffee filter to strain out any sediments as you pour the perfume into small blue or amber bottles. These bottles should have tight caps or stoppers in them to avoid evaporation. You can purchase these wherever you purchase your oils.
