Whether it is because of a desire to recycle or a desire to be creative, making a gum wrapper bracelet is a creative project for most ages to undertake. It does not take a lot of time to complete one bracelet and the color combination options are limited only to the variety of gum wrappers used.Gum wrapper bracelets may be made with wrappers from the same brand or flavor of gum, or they may be made from a highly varied assortment.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Empty gum wrappers (approximately 40)
  1. Step 1

Choose one wrapper and lay it out flat, with the design side facing your work surface.

  2. Step 2

Fold the wrapper in half, lengthwise. Open the wrapper back up.

  3. Step 3

Fold each lengthwise end of the open wrapper to the center crease just created by folding the wrapper.

  4. Step 4

Fold each new lengthwise end of the wrapper to the center crease.

  5. Step 5

Fold one of the newly folded lengthwise ends onto the other. Press firmly. The wrapper will now have a long thin rectangular shape.

  6. Step 6

Fold the wrapper in half widthwise into a “V” shape. Open the fold back up.

  7. Step 7

Fold each widthwise end to the newly created center crease.

  8. Step 8

Fold one of the newly folded widthwise ends onto the other. Press firmly. The wrapper will now resemble a small “v”. Each leg will have an opening in the middle.

  9. Step 9

Repeat this process until all of the wrappers but one has been folded. Your last wrapper will be your connecting link. Fold this wrapper as you did all the others, but skip the very last fold, so it remains in a large “V” shape. Put this wrapper aside for later.

  10. Step 10

Join two wrappers by slipping the folded "v" legs of one wrapper through the middle openings of the other wrapper. The joined wrappers will resemble a “v” shape.

  11. Step 11

Add the third link of the bracelet by slipping the folded "v" legs of one wrapper through the middle openings of the previously inserted wrapper. This will create a shape resembling a “Z."

  12. Step 12

Add the fourth link in the same manner in which you added the third link, but pay attention to the direction in which the new link is inserted. The fourth link will create a “W” shape. Every other new link will face the opposite direction. This means links #1 and #3 will point in opposite directions from one another, as will links #2 and #4. When done correctly, each end will always have the leg end free.

  13. Step 13

Continue adding links until the bracelet is large enough to fit around your hand so it can be worn on your wrist. This is because there is no clasp on this bracelet. Fold more wrappers in order to make additional links, if necessary.

  14. Step 14

Finish off the bracelet with your connecting link. Insert the legs of your connecting link wrapper through the middle openings of one of your bracelet end pieces.

  15. Step 15

Fold the connecting link legs back around the second end piece legs, towards the inside of the "v" they create. Then carefully insert the connecting link legs into the middle openings of the first bracelet end piece. This finishes the connection.

Tips & Warnings
  • Gum wrappers of many different types and flavors of gum may be used, but they must be the same size. Trim wrappers that are too big to the correct size.
  • To make the connection more secure, place one drop of glue on the end of each connecting link after it has been inserted into the middle openings of the first bracelet end piece. Carefully but firmly press the ends and link legs together. Hold it until it is dry.
  • Small gum wrappers are very difficult to work with. For this project it is best to use medium to large sized wrappers.
